Japanese Fire Pit

My focus in this en plein air is the Japanese fire pit architecture with autumn golden color framing the structure. With each painting I'm working toward loosening up my style from photo realism to impressionism.  I've always admired Claude Monet's work. There is an energy and movement in his brushwork that I love.  It's a challenging process as I learn and continue to develop as a painter.

En Plein Air along the Fox River

I'm taking advantage of every warm sunny day left this fall to paint outdoors.  En plein air has opened my eyes to so much more vibrant color and variation in the shadows. This scene captured my attention by the tree bending toward the river as if to drink from it.  The early afternoon sun dappling light through the leaves onto the tree trunk then back and forth through the path running along the river.  Geneva's Island Park is bustling with joggers, bikers, dog walkers and on this day about 60 second graders from a nearby school hanging out in the park and having lunch by the river. I enjoyed the energy of the kids playing and laughing as I painted.
