Polar Bear pumpkins - perfect name for these creamy white beauties! The late afternoon sun casting soft light through the lush green trumpet shaped leaves and winding vines. What a joy to sit on the lawn in front of them and paint!

Afternoon light peaking through cone shaped leaves and web of vines revealing the yummy peach colored pumpkins.

My third painting is of soft peach colored Ukrainian pumpkins.  A good friend Valerie and her husband Phil harvest the largest variety of pumpkins I've ever seen.  I never realized how many colors textures and sizes there are!  I'll be painting here for the next few weeks before through the short harvest season.  Phil and Valerie sell their pumpkins at the Batavia Farmer's Market beginning the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

Sunit reflections of the Japanese lantern and greenery sparkling across the pond amongst lush green foliage.

Clear your mind and imagine a morning walk through the garden, along the stone pathway between the ponds.  Time is of no concern as you take in the sounds of birds and visions of the beautifully designed garden.  Strolling along to the set our eyes on a warm sunlit lantern.  This peaceful  journey continues across an arched bridge with with cool waters and lush green grasses below.

My second in the new series of oil En Plein air (outdoor) painting studies. I returned to the Japanese Garden walking through the paths to discover another gem of a scene.  It was a pleasure meeting and talking with the gentleman and two college students working for the Fox Valley Park District to rebuild the fence surrounding the garden on this morning.  The fence is most likely of Japanese design.  Their precision,  attention to detail and construction is quite impressive.

The lovely Japanese Gardens in Batavia are well manicured and cared for by the Fox Valley Park District. Designed in 1910 by Toro Otsuka, a well-known landscape designer. Great team of people working to maintain on site that I enjoyed talking with as I painted.  It was a joy to paint in this peaceful setting.

Here begins the process of developing a new series of oil En Plein air (outdoor) painting studies. Several times a week my plan is to spend a morning or afternoon painting the landscape in various places outdoor locations. These may develop into larger paintings back in my studio or just remain small paintings.
